Beach Day

Yesterday Ellen and I took a short drive north to Lake Lanier for a relaxing day at the beach. We google-mapped a location that looked good from satellite and planted ourselves there for a few hours. The beach we were on was once under water, so there were lots of big rocks and some dead trees. Ellen tried to tan while I swam a bit and explored the beach. This is a little bit of what I found.

Bulloch Hall

So I shot this while on a walk with Ellen tonight in historic Roswell, GA. I have no idea the significance behind it because I didn't take time to read the sign. I'm sure you can search it on the interweb. One thing I do know is that it is a stop on the Roswell Ghost Tour. You really should check out their website/myspace page. Great stuff. I love the news report when the lady says she photographed an orb.

One More

I saw this shadow the other night and made a mental note to come back and shoot it. With the new camera in possession, there was no better time. It is actually just across the parking lot from our apartment. People wash their cars here during the day, and a skink lives in a hole in the bricks. There is some weird grain thing going on though. I was testing out my cameras high ISO noise reduction feature. I'm planning on reshooting it soon.

Expected...

Well, I did get a new camera today. Maybe I will post more than one thing. No one else is home so I only have myself to photograph.

My First dSLR

Today I received my much anticipated digital SLR camera. It is a big deal for me because for months I have been trying to decide which kind I wanted. I went back and forth considering many different bodies and lenses, but finally settled with the Canon 40d and the Canon 17-40 lens. I am very satisfied with my decision. Ellen was very supportive of this, so I graciously complied with her request to be in the first photograph I shot with it. So here she is at Planet Studio with our roommate hard at work in the background. P.S. This is the first camera I have purchased that costed more than $18.

Sock Creatures

These are the first of Ellen's soon to be many after work creations. About a week ago she purchased a book, "Stupid Sock Creatures," and has been at work almost every night since. These guys are made from only socks and stuffing with buttons for eyes. As a result of this new hobby I have been shopping for buttons for the first time in my life. I'm sure there are many more of these trips to come. They don't officially have names but I call them (left to right): Philip the Hyper-Hypo, the Noid, and Beetlejuice. Ellen enjoys making them and I naturally support her, just so long as they don't get wet or eat anything after midnight.

Tree Panorama

Today I didn't have much to do, so I shot this panorama right after lunch. It is a really interesting spot about a mile away from where Ellen is working. There is a little section of forest that is overrun by english ivy. The ground is completely covered with this stuff and it has taken over several trees too. I am working on another image that shows a larger section of this forest. I'll post that in the next couple days. This tree is the biggest of the bunch, so I wanted to shoot it by itself.

What I Don't Miss...

I don't miss snow and icebergs falling off the roof and landing inches away from the sidewalk to my front door. This image was taken in February this year and I just stumbled across it. It makes me happy it's summer and that I am in Atlanta.
